Projects
Ten years in the making...
. . . the Port of Bandon River Walk project has completed 3 phases of the plan. A 25,000 square foot boardwalk with glass enclosed picnic shelter, 100 seat outdoor amphitheater, and a meandering sidewalk which includes engraved bricks purchased by the public.

Rebuilding the marina for today’s mariners is the next phase. In 2010 through a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board, the marina is being outfitted with the latest equipment for vessel sewage pump out and dump station. Environmentally sound disposal of waste is a top priority for the port.
The Port of Bandon is researching to secure funding to build a wildlife viewing platform adjacent to the port owned Redmon Pond on the South Jetty. This platform will allow wildlife enthusiasts to view the pond and migratory birds that frequent there. The platform will also offer views of a favorite gathering spot for Pelicans on the Coquille River and a clear and fabulous view of the Bandon Lighthouse and Coquille River bar. Gorse abatement is on-going on this property and in partnership with BLM, native grasses and native plants are being introduced as part of the abatement program.

The summer of 2010 the port will continue the River Walk in front of the historic USCG Life Saving Station. This project involves replacing the old, degraded sidewalk with patterned, colored concrete of cresting waves. Additional engraved bricks will be placed on the crest of each wave and are available for purchase through the port office.

There are 3 Fish Cleaning areas.
They can be located on this map.
In order to dispose of fish waste properly, please observe the following when using the Port Fish Cleaning Areas:
In small quantities, fish waste is scavenged by crabs and other marine animals. However, in an enclosed marina basin decomposition of excessive fish waste can produce foul odors and impair water quality through increased nutrient and bacteria levels and decreased dissolved oxygen. This can cause fish kills as well as an unsightly mess.
- Do not throw fish waste, unwanted bait, or bait packaging into marina waters.
- Discard fish waste over deep water or in the trash.
- If available, use fish cleaning stations.
- Recycle fish parts by composting with peat moss or burying in the garden as fertilizer.
- Freeze fish waste and reuse as chum or bait.
The City of Coquille is located in the port taxing district:
The Port of Bandon has been involved in lending support in the construction of the Coquille River Walk. This project encompasses 4,026 feet of a paved multi-use nature trail along the scenic banks of the Coquille River within the boundaries of city limits. This grass-roots effort will provide safe, recreational access along the river for the people of Coquille and the surrounding area.
